S ail th e C h il d ren - D avid e B es ana T h e “ S ail th e C h il d ren” solidarity education project aims to involve boys and girls from Save the Children’s Points of Light, highly educational day centres located in the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods and suburbs of cities. These centres offer free training and ed uc ational op p ortunities to children and adolescents between the ages of 6 and 17. The objectives of Sail the Children include the building of self-esteem, teamwork and trust in institutions and civic society. T h e j ou rney w as filled with unforgettable moments and encounters, as well as tough and intense challenges.They sailed using only white sails (mainsail and jib) or an electric motor. T h ere w ere no h y d roc arb ons on b oard , and th ere w ere no generators other than the sun and the wind while sailing. Tornavento is a sailing boat designed to be op erated c omp l etel y ind ep end entl y b y p eop l e w ith d isab il ities in th eir l ow er l imb s and , in some c ases, th eir u p p er l imb s. T h e ski p p er and h is sec ond in c ommand are themselves paraplegics, confined to wheelchairs, so they have a unique approach to their guests.
